Tolo (Tolon)

A small fishing village in the Peloponnese, just a two hour ride from Athens, with a beautiful half-moon shaped bay and awarded the 'Blue Flag' for its clean beach.

The history of Tolo goes back to the times of Homer where Tolo Bay is described along with Ancient Asini in his book the Iliad.

From Argos, and Tiryns of the great walls, from Hermione and Asine that embrace a gulf of sea, from Troezen, Eionae, and vine-clad Epidaurus, there came those whom... And eighty black ships brought them.

Tolo has been welcoming visitors from all over the world for decades, and, as a tourist resort is well organised with all the facilities and amenities needed whilst away from home. The one main road follows the beach around the coast and it is lined with shops, bars, supermarkets, pharmacies, post office, bakers, gift shops, cafeterias and tavernas. The beach itself is sandy and runs from the wide 'sandy beach' right as far as the harbour. It is lined with sunbeds and umbrellas and has a variety of watersports such as waterskiing, windsurfing, canoes, motor boat rental, scuba diving, ringo & banana rides most of which come with or without tuition.

Walk along the beach to the headland at the top of the sandy beach where the site of Ancient Asini is located. This important archaelogical site has recently had an overhall and had much to see for the visitor including an interactive gallery. The views from the top of the headland are breathtaking with the whole of Tolo one one side and Plaka Beach at Drepano on the other plus, of course, the islands in the bay
